Covance opens new biorepository in Indiana

Covance has opened a new long term storage biorepository in Greenfeild, Indiana. With high tech security and safety features, it will be used to hold specimens such as plasma, serum, whole blood, DNA, PBMC (peripheral blood mononuclear cell) samples and tissue.

Deborah Tanner, corporate senior vice president and president, Central Laboratory Services and Discovery & Translational Services said about the new facility:
“We believe Covance has the latest technology and capacity to meet our clients’ sample storage and testing needs for many years to come. Our experience in clinical trial specimen testing and storage enables us to manage the entire lifecycle from specimen draw to final destruction, which minimises the risk for our clients due to shipping and moving specimens.”

Covance Partners with RBM to Extend Biomarker Offering

According to this article in outsourcing-pharma.com Covance will outsource biomarker activities to Rules Based Medicine, which is a US based laboratory group. Demand for biomarker services and the use of biomarker analysis in clinical trials has increased dramatically, and so this couldn't come at a better time.

Before the deal took place Covance had also begun building biomarker capacity. Under the deal RBM will apply its multi-analyte profile (MAP) technologies to projects being carried out by Covance's customers.

PPD Extends its Reach to Eastern and Central Europe

According to this article in novinite.com PPD is set to buy AbCRO, which is Bulgarian based CRO, in order to expand its drug testing businesses in Eastern and Central Europe.

The purchase which is expected to be completed in March will add Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Croatia to PPD’s operations in Europe and also help bolster its already existing operations in Poland, Russia and the Ukraine. What other clinical trials companies are investing heavily in Eastern and Central Europe?

Covance expands into Eastern Europe and Middle East

Covance has opened up new offices in Kiev, Ukraine; Bratislava, Slovakia; and Tel Aviv, Israel. The Ukraine and Slovakia offices will be in support of the CROs regional network and field based CRAs. The new office located in Tel Aviv will be a center to support staff for operations in Greece, Turkey and the Middle East.
